Windsor Birmingham - 27" Bass Drum - Antique 1900s -Calfheads & Brass Fittings

£600.00

Selling off a few pieces from my Birmingham history collection here at Conundrum. Coming from the beautiful scenic city myself I really enjoy the history behind these drums.

Arthur Octavius Windsor, initially a coffin furniture maker, moved over to making banjos in the early 1900s. Windsor started a factory on Newhall Street in the city centre.

Windsor had great craftsmanship in making instruments. String, percussion and wind instruments were predominantly made. During the war, sadly like most of the city it was destroyed in an air raid.

Would be great in a studio for a statement piece and usable too. Sounds massive as expected.

Comes with 2 made in USA Calkin beaters and leather and bass back strap if you want to march with it.

I have fully stripped down, cleaned the shell and some of the parts. Lapped a new calfskin on to the hoop and tensioned it back up and now works great.

Sad to say this bass drum comes with its 100 year old problems:

  • Missing Air vent flap.

  • Missing 1 tension rod.

  • Cracked hoops - Now repaired.

  • 2 small holes in the bottom of drum.

I have put this down as collection only due to size.

Something could be sorted out via specialist courier or I could deliver it myself (just send me a email).
